Invitation to the Inauguration of the Southern Africa Province

After years of discussion and planning, Fr Arturo Sosa SJ, the Superior-General of the Society of Jesus in Rome has decreed that on the 25th March 2021 the provinces of Zambia-Malawi, Zimbabwe-Mozambique and the region of South Africa are formally suppressed and a new province of Southern Africa is canonically erected. In celebration of this fact, a celebratory liturgy is to be held in the Chapel of the Holy Name of Jesus in Lusaka, Zambia.

Owing to the government restrictions on gatherings and other COVID-19 precautions, the new Provincial of the Society of Jesus in South Africa has asked that all Jesuits in the new Province gather in their local communities, together with invited friends, benefactors and partners in ministry, and participate together by watching the liturgy and joining in a local celebration.

The link to the Liturgy is below. It will commence at 17h30 on Thursday, 25 March 2021.

Jesuits are invited to share photographs of the event with the Communications Director and use the #SAPInauguration, and tagging the Province’s social media @SAJesuits.
